Question: I am a stay at home mom with 3 little kids. I love being home, but I am trying to earn some extra money, too. I feel like I am failing as a mom when I work my business, and I feel like I am failing at business when I am spending too much time just with the kids, and I feel like my house is falling apart when I do either of those! Do you have a tip for how to balance it all during the day!

Answer: Wow! Let me just let you know that I have been in your shoes! You’re going to see lots of tips on this page and in my programs and materials that share all the ways busy moms can stay super productive, but let me share a great one here that I learned from an incredible leader! Think of your day in 3 parts if you will. The first is time with your kids, the second is household activities, and the third is activities that will grow your business (be sure on this last one that you are focusing on the income-producing portions!) Each day rotate through these 3 parts. They all won’t necessarily be even segments of time.

Let me break it down. For example, you might start your day with breakfast with the kiddos and playing a little play dough (kid time). Then, they might busy themselves in the toy room (or living room) while you sweep the kitchen floors and load the dishes from the night before (trust me we have all been there!). Third, while they’re watching a show, reading a book, having a snack, you might sit down to make a post on social media (that you likely planned out the night before!) send a few messages inviting people over for a get together to look at your business, or maybe you’re sending a few well thought out messages on social media. Then you circle back to time with your kids and keep rotating! Maybe you take a couple hours to go to the park, come home and move some laundry through and lay out something for dinner, and then it’s time for nap or quiet time where you get a bigger segment of time to work your business! So by the end of the day, the odds are good that you’ve had a few very intentional portions of the day playing at the park or doing activities with the kids, you’ve likely had a few pockets of time where you swept, meal planned for dinner, loaded some dishes and made a bed, and then had a few intentional times where you were able to make some progress forward in your business! You will go to bed feeling so relieved to have accomplished so much!

Here’s the thing. I know that it doesn’t always look perfect. Kids don’t always nap. They don’t always give you 5 minutes to yourself. Heck, I remember hiding in the closet one time doing a 3 way call, all praying the boys wouldn’t mess the house up too much in the next 5 minutes. But I know this…it IS possible to build a business with little kids. It might just take more flexibility, more adjustments, more grace, and a lot more focus when it’s time to get to work! I know this, moms crush it in network marketing when they are driven to get it done! Make it happen!
